New Beta: 3.0.387
Sunday 4 March 2007, 17:54
Introduction
Yesterday a rather notorious messenger site thought they had something exclusive and special when one of the
translaters decided to leak the internal beta 3.0.371. However, we caught it quite quickly, the person responsible has been removed from the translators list and permanently banned.
Today, however, a somewhat more reliable site (namely this site) 'leaks' another beta. Or should we just call it a release? Whatever you want to call it, build 3.0.387 is now available to download right here
So much for their 15 seconds of internet 'fame'.
Changes
Changes from version 3.0.286 include, but are not limited to:
Although I had done my best to provide an Ad-hiding method that would be less severe to MS than completely removing it whilst still useful for the user.
However they feel that anything that tampers with the advertising, be it just hiding or completely removing, would damage their advertising income, and as such the feature would have to be removed.
As the Windows Live network relies solely on advertising, I feel that they are certainly in a position to state this, which is why I have chosen to honour their request.
I can understand those ads can be nuisance, but it's a lot better than having to pay for messenger, so you'll just have to live with it.
New features
Although most of the new features are self-explanatory, some of them are quite confusing, so here's a little introduction to some of them.
Timezone adjustable clock
I, and many others, use WLM to talk to a lot of international contacts. Most of these contacts also live in a different timezone, and it's really hard to keep track of which timezone everyone is in, and what time it would be in that timezone.
That is why I introduced timezone adjustable clocks to StuffPlug 3. Basically it adds a little clock in the conversation window, below the display picture, that reflects the time in the timezone you have set for that person.
If you click the little arrow beside it, you can choose from a list of timezones, or have StuffPlug 3 request the timezone for the user.
The clock itself can just be enabled even if the other user does not have stuffplug, but the requesting of the other timezone requires the other user to have StuffPlug 3 installed, and the special feature enabled.
Wordwheel Add
The search bar (wordwheel) at the top of the contact list is very useful, but I (and some others on the forum) felt that it lacked one big thing.
If you'd be searching for someone and he wouldn't be found on your contactlist, you'd naturally want to add him. However, this requires you to open up a new menu, and re-typing the e-mail address.
No more with this new feature, if no contacts can be found matching your search string, you are offered to add this person as a new contact with one click of your mouse
Languages included
Because this version was released slightly (a lot) before the planned date, not all translators have had time to properly translate. This is why only the following languages have been included:
Download StuffPlug 3.0.387 right now!
Edit: Messed up a little, typo on filename and version number. Fixed now, as well as a french language included, and a new bit to post added

Changes
Changes from version 3.0.286 include, but are not limited to:
- Can be loaded on WLM 8.0.0812, 8.1.0168, and 8.1.0178 (although only the latter is officially supported)

- New feature: Ability to turn SP convo button on or off
- New feature: Ability to turn SP contactlist button on or off
- New feature: More than 5 custom emoticons per message
- New feature: Timezone adjustable clock per contact
- New feature: WordwheelAdd, type the email address of someone not yet in your contact list in the word wheel, and you can add em
- New feature: customizable timestamps.
- Fixed feature for WLM 8.1: BlockTalk
- Fixed feature for WLM 8.1: KeyboardLED
- Fixed feature: CE/DP Stealer now shows animated emoticons.
- Fixed feature: use better icons for status-icon features
- Fixed feature: StatusIcons now also changes icon in window itself
- New loader (Should fix Vista x64 problems)
- Loads of (bug)fixes
- Loads of UI updates
- New silly alpha animation on drop down options (like chatname, timestamps, flashled)
- Windows of the same type now only open once.
- Fixed several memory leaks.
- Made installation directory choosable
- Removed button from login window

This doesn't work in messenger 8.0 but that's fine for me.

Excellent! Good work!
Some improvement suggestions:
1. It should say in the description of the fake invite feature that you have to type "!fakeinvite " to use it. I only found this information in the FAQ on the website.
2. In the description of the custom time stamp feature, it says 'check the online FAQ for format specifications', but there is no information about the feature in the FAQ. Best would be to include the information directly into SP - or at least in the FAQ on the website.
3. Still waiting for a German translation (not too important, though)
4. In WLM, you can create a 'dynamic display picture' and will be directed to the so-called 'MeeZone' where you can create 'MeeGos' (and other stuff), but have to pay for it (and the MeeGos look stupid anyway). BUT - they show that it is possible to have animated display pictures. So, is there a way to get my own short animations / animation loops (e.g. from .swf or .gif files) into my DP, I mean, is it at least technically possible? And if so - would be great to see that in SP one day!

I got a problem: I don't know how to replace default emoticons. Going to the default emoticons "library" in WLM and trying to edit the default ones, doesn't work.
edit: nevermind. I just realized I simply have to create another emoticon with the same text input. thanks anyway.

When you're just at it, I got some questions about that feature:
1. Can the standard emoticons also be restored again by deleting the new emoticons or by renaming their text input?
And when I replaced for example the :) emoticon:
2. When I type :), do I and my chat partner see my custom em. or is it only visible to me?
3. When my chat partner types :), do I see the standard :) or my custom :)? (and he sees always his standard :)?)
4. Can I still somehow send the standard :) even while it actually is replaced, e.g. by going to the emoticons menu or so?
Thanks for any answers! Sorry for not trying it out myself, but I fear that it couldn't be restored to the standard :) and have no cool :) at the moment anyway.. ^^

@parabel:
I agree. I thought it was just "!invite" (like the !action command) and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work. Had to check the FAQs.
It should be in the FAQs yes, but it isn't. I have suggested adding a menu in stuffplug that shows the formatting, it hasn't happened yet tho. Until then, refer here: Timestamp Format
Those created dynamic display pictures are digitally signed by Microsoft which is why they can be used in WLM. You can't fake the digital signature, which means you can't use your own animated images, so the answer is no. If someone else knows otherwise, please correct me .
Yes. When you replace a default, removing that replaced emoticon, or changing the text input WILL restore the original emoticon.
I assume its visible to BOTH parties, but I can't say for sure.
If I have the smile emoticon replaced, and my contact uses the smile emoticon, then I see the one he used. So, the original. I don't see my custom one. And he'd see his original one too.
No. You can make it appear in your little chat box (where you type) but when you send it, its replaced by your new one. You have to REMOVE your custom emoticon for the original to be used by you.
I hope that answered some of your questions!

When you have replacted the default one with another emote, then the person you sent it to will see your custom emote... If they try and add it, they will see the default code to add it, but without stuffplug, they will have to change it to something else to save it...
Hope I made myself clear

Great update, good to see that some tidy up options that I suggested were implemented. However the very first and most important one (to me) is still not there. Would it really be that hard to make the menu name smaller?
Right now it takes up so much space that the top menu takes up two rows for me.
And it's really annoying.

And for those wondering, so far, for me, it is almost entirely compatiable with WLM 8.5. A few things don't work entirly, but for the most part, progress is coming along very well .
I'd show some screens, but I am not sure if I am aloud to do that kinda thing lol . I think I can say that most of the bugs/glitches are ironed out, and the menus have been cleaned up tho .

It has been in the works for the last 5 months No need to worry though, if you say they are, then they are. This will more likely get done faster than MDL2.0. I trust you guys!

True. There hasn't been an update in quite a while, but I'm sure that if we give TB & TS some more time, the result will satisfy us. Also, I highly doubt that both Stuffplug and MessengerDiscovery will be released contemporaneously.
MessengerDiscovery has released over 6 beta updates as far as I know.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Actually has 7, but heres not the place to talk about MDL .
Anyways, beta testing is continuing on a recent beta. I can't give much info on the new beta, but I will say there is a really awesome feature that TB has created never before seen in ANY addon. You'll all need to be patient. I am posting this cause I know how nerve racking it can be waiting for an update to a program (MDL, MPL, WLM >.<!).
So yeah, just letting you all know that development is progressing .

and WLM 9 is BETA. Why make Stuffplug compatible when with new protocols and stuff when things in WLM 9 will change at various stages. Difference between 8.0, 8.1 and 8.5 is minimal and is very easy to make programs compatible because they use the same protocol.

I have two things to say about a comment like this:
1. If you are a beta tester, you shouldn't be attempting to use StuffPlug.
2. If you are not a beta tester, you shouldn't be using Windows Live Messenger 9.0 Beta.

Hi all,
As you will have probably seen already I have uploaded the new design but it is by no way complete and I have to work on it over the next week to sort out all the problems and add further content.
Hope you like it.
