Wlm 8.5 And 9.0
Friday 7 December 2007, 18:15
Hi all,
Windows Live Messenger 8.5 has been released a while back, and messenger 9.0 is already leaked, and as of now, there's no officially compatible version of StuffPlug for either of em.
I currently can't be bothered to write a proper report on how things are going, so here's a quick list of things that still need mentioning

First addition about the UI

I currently can't be bothered to write a proper report on how things are going, so here's a quick list of things that still need mentioning
- The current beta of StuffPlug 3 can be installed using this trick. It's not 100% compatible, but it works
- StuffPlug 3.9, to be released soon, will be compatible with WLM 8.5, but not with 9.0.
- StuffPlug 4.0, to be released somewhere next year, will be compatible with WLM 9.0, but not with earlier versions. WLM 9.0 has changed too many things internally to make a version that is both compatible with 8.0 and 9.0, so SP 3.9 will be the last version for WLM 8.x, and SP 4.0 will focus purely on WLM 9.0.
- As I'm currently in a rather nasty personal situation, none of the above mentioned release dates or spans are definitive. It all depends on how soon I get my ability to concentrate on this stuff back.
- the new major version number was mainly due to a complete overhaul of the user-interface, but as having a seperate major release for WLM 9.0 makes much more sense, this user-interface overhaul will now be in 3.9 (and in 4.0 too, but it won't be an overhaul then, will it )
- TB

First addition about the UI

Yeah but still, we never even got off the Beta level with 3.0.xxx!! Meh I don't care as far as I'm concerned the higher the number the better the features.

Damn, thats horrible news Patchou did a quick/****ty fix for 4.50 and 9.0; You think it would be remotely possible for you to do the same?

Please read TB's post again riahc3, he will do it when he decides to do it! If you wish to knock up a quick fix, feel free to do so.
WLM9 isn't an official release, so until its either released or alot more public, then it is understandable that TB will not waste his time making Stuffplug work for it when the dev team at MS could just change things again.
No more negativity please! We're all for constructive criticism, but complaining is just pointless and a waste of your time and ours.

Ooh, so TB is alive!
I was getting afraid that even the BETA we have now would be the last one we'll get.

I think TB knows where get the 9.0, but he probably will develop StuffPlug when Messenger 9.0 Beta 1 is released.

It is not a public beta, if you are not in the beta then stay away from it. It's a buggy version anyway.
TB doesn't need it, he is of course in the official beta.

Bug - Editing Display Name in Contact List
---
1. Use non-maximized contact list (with small width).
2. Write a long personal message.
3. Write some characters in display name and hit Enter.
(all ok, until now)
4. Click in display name and continue writing since the end.
What happens (sometimes) is, in step 4, all nickname is erased and all what i write after that, will replace also the personal message.
It happens with my computer with Windows XP and original skin (all addons and msgr updated), and with my Windows Vista and my beach skin.

You should report any bugs in The Bug Manager that way theyre all in one place, making it easier for TB to fix them

There is a problem with messenger itself when even if you are editing your name the "proper" way (in the options window) after applying changes it'll do some weird stuff like that.
That said I do have StuffPlug installed when it does these weird and wacky things so that might be the cause...

Hi TB,
Tell me, is there an un-announced version/beta so that i can use with the latest things?
If so, i'd like to have access to it.
Thanks in advanced!!
